HALATION is a noun, referring to the phenomenon in film photography wherein bright sources of light are enveloped in a warm, glowing halo. We like to think of HALATION’s parties as places that create that same feeling, a space to leave a warm, glowing mark on your memories.

Formed out of a love for dance and unforgettable experiences, HALATION seeks to cross genres and spaces to deliver exceptional, memory worthy experiences. HALATION was brought to reality by a group of local and international people already involved in Melbourne’s nightlife and underground scene who wanted to create a space not centred on DJ’s, alcohol or status, where music took centre stage and dance was rewarded.

HALATION has big goals, from park raves to intimate clubs to large scale events, we want to do it all, whilst sticking to our core philosophies. You can expect recurring events that carry the same level of production level, love and energy.

Our philosophy:

HALATION was formed out of a love of everything great that Melbourne has to offer. From sweaty nights at miscellania dancing to ghetto tech or indie sleeze, to knee-ruining nights spent grooving to acid techno in warehouse raves, we are taking what we know creates incredible memories and bringing it to one place.

Guiding Principles and Philosophies

Music Over Everything

We believe that the best parties stretch beyond the boundaries of genre and that tying ourselves to one corner of dance music limits both us and you. Our nights are programmed to bring the best out of you and our DJs. Please come with an open mind.

Decentering the DJ

The shift towards larger and larger scale events has shifted nightlife towards celebrity culture and the worship of DJs over dance. Our Djs are kept to the side, facing away or obscured from the crowd. Why, because you, the attendees, are the centre of the night. Face those you love or hope to love, enjoy in your own presence.

Phones Away

The dancefloor is sacred, whilst we do permit the usage of phones at our events, we enforce that they do not be used, in any capacity, on the dancefloor. If you wish to reflect or remember the night, please note that all sets are recorded for your viewing pleasure at a later date.

Safety for All

Dance music owes itself to BIPOC, low income and queer individuals. HALATION parties have zero tolerance for intolerance, bigotry or hatred, if you feel unsafe please seek a staff member.
